April 3, 2006
Hello family, friends & associates, and “Amaryllis” guests,
I’m doing another fundraising marathon for the ‘Canadian Diabetes Association”!
In 2004, I raised over $6000 for this organization.
In 2006, my goal is to raise at least $6000.
Much of my spare time is spent going door to door in my neighbourhood, and
I have achieved $3300 thus far. Lots of doors!
Some Facts about diabetes:
(Please go to www.teamdiabetes.ca for more information, and go to “PLEDGE a Participant, to donate)
- Diabetes affects over 2 million people in Canada alone.
- By the end of the decade, that figure is expected to rise to 3 million.
- By 2020, it is projected that costs may rise to $19.2 billion /year, in Canada.
- There is a close connection between diabetes, heart disease & cancer.
- Numbers of those affected are projected to rise as the population ages.
- Younger people & children are susceptible to diabetes.
During my fundraising in 2004, I met 3 researchers who were being directly funded by the ‘Canadian Diabetes Association”, and many, many people whose own lives are directly affected by diabetes.
Since involvement, and as a “Team Diabetes” member in Reykjavik, Iceland in 2004, my personal health has improved on many levels. I speedwalk almost every day for 1 to1.5 hours.
I’m going back to Iceland in August, 2006.
You can contribute to the ‘Canadian Diabetes Association’ and my efforts: Go to www.teamdiabetes.ca and click on “PLEDGE a participant”.
Personal and corporate donations welcome.
You will receive a tax receipt for your contribution.
Please spread the word to your circle of friends.
I look forward to hearing some news from you!
Very best,
Pieter Bergen
